Kahvankarin nuotiopaikka

I skied on the frozen Gulf of Bothnia to the Kahvankari island at the first rime of my life in January 2021. The island is visible and seems to be really close to the inland. However if you check it on the google maps, you see that it is quite a long trip, nevertheless how close it seems to be. I recommend to reach the Island from Letonniemi Peninsula, probably Pispanletto barbecue place is the closest point on the main coast. You need to take your own firewood and the infrastructure is a little bit abandoned. No wonder why, since except the frozen winter period, the Island is only accessible by small boat, kayak or canoe. In winter, when the sea ice is strong enough you can take a walk or get to the island on skis or on snowmobile. If you are seeking for adventure, you can try it with bike. But I really recommend winter tires equipped with nails and or Fatbike. If the ice is strong enough and not covered by significant amount of snow, you can try, reach Kahvankari nordic skates approach. Remember that safety is the first, so never skate alone on the sea and without nordic skate education and proper equipment!
