Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress

One word, astonishing!

Spent hours walking around the islands that make up this fortress. I enjoyed this place far more than I thought I would. There’s plenty of flora & fauna & stunning water vistas. I loved the tunnels & reading the history, my husband loved the military history & artefacts. The church's central dome has doubled as a lighthouse since 1929, making it one of only a few churches in the world that has that dual purpose. The lighthouse is officially the Harmaja Range Rear light, and it pairs with the Harmaja lighthouse. It blinks H for Helsinki in morse code. A must visit place to spend a day. Plenty of benches to sit & relax & people watch or the boats. Lots of cafes & adequate toilet facilities. Oh & it’s free, you just have to get there!
